RandomBackground 1.0 for Mac OS X

The following text is an english one wrote by a french guy, so if you see any mistake, or anything wrong, send a mail to steg@mac.com, and tell him what is wrong.

RandomBackground is a software under the GNU Public Licence (at the end of this file), thus free, it is very simple it change your desktop pictures, at each login, taking the pictures, in the user 'Pictures' Directory ('~/Pictures'). It has no UI, but if your a developer, you can add one if you want by downloading the source code here.

Requirement: Any computer that can run Mac OS X 10.0.4 (not tested with others version).


Go to Download and download RandomBackground

Move RandomBackground to your Applications folder.

Put some Desktop Pictures in your 'Pictures' Directory ('~/Pictures'), you can find some on the website:

Then open the System Preferences Application, open the Apple Menu, and select 'System Preferences', select the Login button (the one with a blue button and a home), select the login item pan, and add the RandomBackground Application. Logout from your current user, and login to the same user, see if it working. if the picture didn't changed, Log back an forth an other time, if you have the same picture, make sure you have one or more pict in the folder.

Notice that you can see the state of the RandomBackground App, by opening the Console App.
